So rumors have it being similar to 7, in that it follows the protagonist of that game and is also first person. Also takes place in snowy area.
I don't REally know where they take the series from here. They know they messed up with 6 so they did a complete 180 with re7, so now do they expand what they built on and go in a completely new direction? By doing this, they may alienate hardcore fans even further. Or, do they take the good parts of re7 and mix it with old RE staples, like all the old characters coming back and having like a mr. x villain chasing you around.

i think the series might be going through changes as a whole. turning old cast who were originally good characters into bad characters and whatnot. by that i mean what drives them, doing good things or bad things, or both but in a complex way. maybe going as far as writing them off from future games even.
re7 managed to do well despite having entirely new cast of characters (minus chris dlc) so capcom might change things from now on. figure 8 will be continuing what 7 started, but with more old cast and story references. the guy in 7 that chased you around might as well have been mr. x, since he was fairly relentless and you had to hide from him.
i do wonder how long this type of villain in the games will repeat, because recent few RE releases all had near invincible character chasing you around and most of the time the best course of action was to just run. first in 7, then in remake 2, and finally in remake 3. would people just get bored of that whenever they see this type of character and go like "oh, it's one of those characters again" or should capcom somehow evolve that. don't get me wrong, it is somewhat exciting and anxious at the same time for fully random appearances of these characters when you least expect them. mr. x in 2 at the police station was great, i remember being outside at the crashed helicopter and mr. x was around, but he was inside the building a floor higher like in a storage area just searching and there'd be these muffled, but loud stomps and after he was done circling a couple times the sound would cease.
don't fix what's not broken? i think that can apply here too.
